Wind River Range

Gannet Peak is Wyoming's highest mountain, just 30' higher than the Grand Teton. This week long packpacking trip is about 55 miles round trip and is in some of the most beautiful country you can find, the Wind River Range. Although this trip has been done in three days, five days is the minimum you will want to do it in if you are not one of those super hikers. The first 23 miles take you into Titcomb basin, the base of the real peak. On the third day you will need day packs and glacier gear to make the summit. Because of the long day, it is best to leave at 4 or 5 AM. I regret to say that when we made this trip, a broken ice bridge kept us from climbing the remaining mile to the summit. The fourth and fifth days will be your hike out. Pinedale, the nearest town, has a few motels and quite a few restaraunts, which are great after a week of Ramen. This is a trip I definitely want to do again, and hopefully make the summit.
