Rules

Section 1: Franchise Ownership

1.1: The LAFF league shall consist of 16 franchises, divided into four 4-team divisions.
1.2: LAFF franchise owners and team names shall be approved by majority vote of existing owners.
1.3: Each franchise shall pay an annual $25 membership fee, due on or about the time of the draft.
1.4: Each franchise shall pay an annual subscription fee of $10 to support the administrative costs of the Commissioner's Office.
1.5: Each owner shall make every effort to participate in and contribute to the social activies of the league.
1.6: Each franchise shall have one vote in matters of league policy. Seventy-five percent of the franchises (12 of 16) must approve any change to the LAFF bylaws.

Section 2: The LAFF draft

2.1: Franchise owners must attend the annual draft, conducted in late August, in order to fill an initial roster of 11 players.
2.2: Draft order will be determined by a lottery conducted during a summer meeting of owners. Draft order is reversed for each round.
2.3: The draft shall consist of 11 rounds.
2.4: During the draft, a franchise will have one minute to select a player once the draft emcee calls the team’s name.

Section 3: Franchise management

3.1: Each owner shall maintain an active roster of 11 players throughout the season.
3.2: A franchise roster shall consist of A) 2 quarterbacks, 3 running backs, 4 receivers (including tight ends), 1 kicker and 1 defensive/special teams unit, or B) 2 quarterbacks, 2 running backs, 5 receivers, 1 kicker and 1 defensive/special teams unit. There are no exceptions to this rule.
3.3: Each owner shall submit a weekly starting lineup to the commissioner by 1 p.m. on Friday, or at a day and time specified by the commissioner.
3.4: Each starting lineup shall consist of 8 players, including A) 1 quarterback, 2 running backs, 3 receivers, 1 kicker and 1 defensive/special teams unit, or B) 1 quarterback, 1 running back, 4 receivers, 1 kicker and 1 defensive/special teams unit. A franchise can start fewer than eight players, but cannot go beyond allowable number at any one position.
3.5: If an owner fails to report a starting lineup by the published deadline, the previous week’s starting lineup will be used.
3.6: Owners can make one change to their starting lineup prior to kickoff of the first NFL game of the week. The owner must notify the commissioner and attempt to notifiy that week’s opponent about the change in the starting lineup.

Section 4: Scoring

4.1: Quarterbacks, running backs and receivers score in the following manner:

  • TD (run, pass or catch) from 1-9 yards - 6
  • TD from 10-39 yards - 9
  • TD from 40-59 yards - 12
  • TD from 60+ yards - 15
  • 2 point conversion - 2
  • Quarterback passes for 300 yards - 6
  • Each additional 100 yards - 6
  • Backs rush or receive for 100 yards - 6
  • Each additional 100 yards - 6
  • Receivers receive or rush for 100 yards - 6
  • Each additional 100 yards - 6

(note: rushing and receiving yards are not combined to reach performance marks)

4.2: Kickers score in the following manner:

  • Point after touchdown - 1
  • Field goal from 1-39 yards - 3
  • Field goal from 40-49 yards - 5
  • Field goal from 50+ yards - 10
  • Touchdown scored in same manner as position players

4.3: Defensive/special teams units score in the following manner:

  • Touchdowns scored in any manner (fumble return, interception return, kickoff or punt return, blocked kick, fake field goal) will be scored on the distance method consistent with position players.
  • Home team - 3
  • Two-point conversion - 2
  • Full game shutout - 15
  • Safety - 6
  • Interception or fumble recovery - 2
  • Sack - 1

Section 5: Transactions

5.1: Transaction requests shall be submitted to the commissioner by 3 p.m. Thursday, or at a day and time designated by the commissioner.
5.3: Owners shall pay $1 for each new player added to their roster through any type of transaction.
5.4: Owners may waive one or more players and pick up “free agents,” or NFL players not on another LAFF roster. Waived players may be picked up by another franchise one week after going on waivers.
5.5: Trades can be made between owners. However, if an owner trades a player, the same player cannot be reacquired through a trade at any time during the season. The player can be reaquired as a free agent.
5.6: Legitimately injured NFL players may be placed on “injured reserve” and replaced on the active roster by a free agent. Once the player returns to an NFL game, the owner must either reactivate the player, waive him or trade him.
5.7: Transaction requests receive the following priorty: the team with the worst record receives its first request, followed by the team with the next worst record, and so on. Once all teams making transaction requests have been considered, the rotation returns to the team with the worst record. Owners should indicate priority order when reqesting more than one free agent.
5.8: LAFF franchises holding kickers and defenses with byes will be able to pick up replacements during that week. Owners must put in a transaction request. Priority order will be determined by teams with the worst record (see rule 5.7). Bye week replacements are filled before other transaction requests are considered. Bye week replacements automatically return to the free agent pool on Tuesday of the following week.
5.9: Trades are not allowed after week 12 of the regular season.

Section 6: Tiebreakers

6.1: There are no tiebreakers for regular season games.
6.2: For post-season games, ties shall be broken by total score including active bench players.
6.3: The following methods will be used to break ties in the standings:

  1. Record against teams in tie (if all teams involved have played each other).
  2. Most points scored against other teams in tie.
  3. Most points scored in all games during season.
  4. Fewest points allowed against teams in tie.

Section 7: Post-season play

7.1: The final three weeks of the NFL season will be reserved for LAFF championship playoffs and consolation tournament.
7.2: The championship playoffs will consist of eight teams, including the four division winners and four wildcard teams (the next four best records) from any division.
7.3: Teams will be seeded 1-8 with the division winners earning the top four seeds and the wildcard teams seeded 5-8 based on record and the tie-breakers above. The higher seeded team will be the home team for the first two rounds of the single-elimination tournament.
7.4: The remaining eight teams will play a single-elimination tournament with the higher seeded team being the home team for the first two rounds.
7.5: Homefield advantage for post-season games is worth 6 points, except for week 17 bowl games which are played on a neutral site with no homefield advantage.

Section 8: Commissioner’s duties

8.1: The commissioner is responsible for organizing the draft, conducting transactions, providing weekly scores and information and overall operation of the league.
8.2: The commissioner has the power to act in the best interest of the league and the game of fantasy football.
