Derek and Shannalee Michalsky, 6 cats, and a goat make up Akadia Shelties.
I have been in Shelties for 22 years and Derek, by marriage, for 11 now. Sometimes sacrafices have to be made in the way of a "normal" social life to make way for the dogs but we are devoted to our furkids and we are delighted to be able to share our life with them.
On average, we maintain a kennel of appox. 15 adult Shelties with 1 to 3 litters per year. We also have a Border Collie ( resident Sheltie protector) and 2 Tibetan Spaniels.
Our dogs are first and foremost, our loved companions and we delight in boasting that almost every dog that is owned here over 3 years will live here it's whole life.
Often times, our hearts choose our dogs for us, a bad trait for breeders selecting for just show stock, but a few of the dogs that are kept that don't make the grade as show dogs are spayed and neutered and remain here as our pets. A couple are oversize, and a couple are too small so if you visit us, you should expect to see our pets as well as our show dogs. We are just as proud of them too!!
We live in rural Idaho, where the mountains are just a short drive away. We spend our spare time fishing and four wheeling.
Since we don't have children, our animals are our kids and we love to brag about them. Shamelessly!!

All About Akadia Shelties
Our breeding philosophy is simple:
1) Health and longevity
2) Temperment
3) Structure and movement
4) Head type, expression, and ears
5) Coat and color
We test all breeding stock for hip dysplasia, inherited eye defects, and Von Willabrands disease.
If you inquire about purchasing one of our dogs, be prepared to provide some background information about yourself. Let us know if you are looking for a show/or pet sheltie and what sex and color you want. If you do not provide a forever (for the life of the dog) home for your dogs please don't bother to write us. This applies to show homes as well. .
This is our dog yard right out our back door. It is 15ft by about 40ft. The little wooden gate leads to the main yard where every one gets their exercise. It is 50ft by 200ft. Big
These are 3 of the runs we have. Two of these are 6ft by 12ft, and one is 6ft by 6ft. They are fully covered and on wood decks for drainage. Winters are hard on washing runs down so the wood decks are a must and really nice. These runs are washed down once a day and all the water buckets in each run/dog yard are scrubbed out and refilled twice a day.
This is looking down the path, but showing the run on the right. That run is 30 ft by 10ft and has grass and bark for the ground cover. Runs and dog yard are poop scooped twice a day.
This picture is looking from the opposite direction. Wood deck kennels on the right and 30 x 10 ft run on the left.
